Flames Called Rangers on Erixon

erixon2Andrew Gross at Rangers Rants has this quote from Gordie Clark, Rangers Director of Player Personnel, on how the Tim Erixon trade originated…

“Obviously, we found out that they were having trouble (signing him) and the general manager (Jay Feaster) called Glen (Sather),” Clark added. “We were in here (at the combine) interviewing and everything and in between interviews we were talking, ‘OK, we can do this, do this, do that. They want this.’ And the next interview up, we held the kid to call Glen. It was exciting because he was on the board for me (in 2009) and we were deciding what we wanted to do, if we wanted to take a forward or a D that year. He would have been the defenseman. We took (Chris) Kreider because we wanted to get a forward.”

…i’ve seen a lot of talk from Flames fans saying the Rangers should be investigated for tampering, but the bottom line is Erixon didn’t want to play in Calgary and the Rangers took advantage of that. Period.

Arthur Staple at Newsday has more on the Erixon trade.
