Clark: Del Zotto Will Comeback

delzottoAndrew Gross at Rangers Rants was able to sit down with Gordie Clark, Rangers Director of Player Personnel, to discuss Friday’s draft. Clark also touched on Michael Del Zotto’s struggles last season…

“It seems he got in a little bit of a rut,” Clark said. “Going to the minors is never a bad idea. I know players don’t like it. He clearly would have been back up (to the NHL) but, two or three games in (the second time Del Zotto was sent to Connecticut), he breaks his thumb. The games he did play down there, he was a dominant player in the AHL. He’ll come back. He’s a competitive kid. When you can find a guy who can move a puck like that, there’s always a job in the NHL. I clearly think it hurt Gaborik. This was the guy hitting him for a lot of those breakaway passes. Gabby never got into tip-top shape. And when he came back, Michael was not into the groove of his game.”

…pretty interesting to hear Clark blame Gabby’s struggles last season on Del Zotto.

…i hope Clark is right re: MDZ comeback. Rangers need Del Zotto to get back to the offensive form he showed his rookie season. God knows the power play needs his help.

Clark will be taking part in a live video chat from Minnesota today at 6pm which can be watched at Blueshirts United.
