Callahan Signs!!!! (Updated)

Update, 3:43 p.m.:
Rangers officially announce signing of Callahan.

Update, 3:34 p.m.:
Cap Geek has Rangers with just $685,500 left with Erixon on roster and no Del Zotto. Rangers now have fourth highest payroll in NHL.

Update, 3:27 p.m.:
Jesse Spector says Rangers have $1,356,333 worth of room, not counting Tim Erixon.

…assuming this number includes Del Zotto.

Update, 3:22 p.m.:
Kevin Allen at USA today says the deal is 3 years, $12.875 million. With first two years at $4 million and last year at $4.875 million.

$4.283 million cap hit per.

Update, 3:19 p.m.:
Callahan on the signing…

“I’m thrilled to be back for three years. I love playing for the Rangers.”

…and we love you playing for the Rangers.

Gross also reports that Callahan, who is 100% recovered from his broken leg and began skating two weeks ago, wanted a longer deal but the money worked best at three years and hasn’t thought about being the Rangers next captain.

Update, 3:01 p.m.:

Andrew Gross reports that Callahan did not receive a no-trade or a no-movement clause. He said he didn’t see need in a three-year deal.callahan3

Update, 2:54 p.m.:
Arthur Staple at Newsday says Callahan agent confirms deal is for three years, just under $13 million.

Update, 2:34 p.m.:
Rick Carpiniello at the Rangers Report says that by signing just a three year deal, Callahan will become a UFA at a time when the Rangers should have a lot of cap room.

…smart guy this Callahan character.

Update, 2:17 p.m.:
Kypreos says the deal is for three years in the ballpark of $13 million.

…that would be a cap hit of $4.33 per. Dubinsky’s is $4.2. Seems fair to me. How about you?

Update, 2:08 p.m.:

Spector now confirms that Callahan has re-signed with the Rangers.

…wooohooo. Can we start the season tomorrow? Pumped!!!!

Original Post:
Jesse Spector tweets that he just spoke to Ryan Callahan’s agent, Steve Bartlett, who said, “Getting close, but nothing 100% yet.”

Meanwhile Nick Kypreos says it will be a three year deal.

…three years?!?!? I was hoping for five or six. Isn’t he supposed to lead the Rangers into the future?
