Arbitration = No Captaincy for Callahan?

callahan3Larry Brooks at the New York Post reports that if Ryan Callahan receives a one-year contract through arbitration that he will likely be eliminated from consideration to succeed Chris Drury as Rangers captain this season.

Callahan would become a UFA next summer.

Brooks feels that Brad Richards would almost certainly get the “C” under that scenario.

If a deal can be struck, Brooks feels that Callahan will receive between $4.5 and $4.75 per year.

Callahan’s arbitration hearing is this Thursday.

…this does makes sense as I’m sure the Rangers would be very hesitant to name someone a Captain who could potentially be gone next season.

…having said that, no way a deal doesn’t get done in the next couple of days.
