Anisimov & Stepan Elevate Their Games

anisimovJim Cerny at Blueshirts United says that Artem Anisimov and Derek Stepan have been able to elevate their games since being placed on a line with Marian Gaborik.

Here’s Gaborik on his new linemates…

“Step is really strong with the puck, and is playing with a lot of confidence,” noted Gaborik. “And Artie is doing a real good job on left wing, a spot I don’t think he’s really played much before. We hope they can both keep it up, for sure.”

Torts says this about the youngsters…

“(Stepan) is a good player, not only good with his vision, but he has a great deal of patience with his game right now, both offensively and defensively,” Tortorella said folllowing Tuesday’s practice. “He is growing, and it’s a situation where he is growing more confident and his game is coming.”

“(Anisimov) has been involved offensively, done the job along the wall, done the job killing penalties, and I have used him a bit to take faceoffs,” explained Tortorella. “He struggled early on, earlier in the season and in camp, but he’s one of the guys who’s beginning to get his game. I have put him on left wing and he’s handled that really well. He’s working hard at trying to build himself to get his complete game going.”

…with Dubinsky not being able to find the back of the net this season the rapid development of Stepan and Anisimov has been that much more important. If the Rangers are going to take the next step to become an elite team these two will have to continue to produce.

…i don’t want to take anything away from Step & AA but I don’t think it’s any coincidence that both of their games were elevated once put on a line with the resurgent Gaborik.
