Agent Criticizes Avery for Support of Gay Marriage

Yesterday I posted about Sean Avery’s support of the Human Rights Campaign’s “New Yorkers for Marriage Equality Campaign.”

Well apparently, Todd Reynolds, vice president of Uptown Sports Management, which represents players such as Mike Fisher of the Nashville Predators, Jonathan Bernier of the Los Angeles Kings, Carlo Colaiacovo of the St. Louis Blues, Dustin Jeffrey of the Pittsburgh Penguins and Chris Neil of the Ottawa Senators, wasn’t a big fan of Avery’s endorsement as he sent out these scathing tweets (via Puck Daddy)…

Greg Wyshyski at Puck Daddy adds this on Reynolds who went on a Canadian radio program to defend himself after the tweets…

“Reynolds went on to say that when it comes to certain rights at the heart of the marriage equality debate — child custody, hospital visitation rights — he believes there are other alternatives beyond marriage that can satisfy those needs for same-sex couples.”

…this is a hockey blog so I’m not going to get into the whole gay marriage debate, but what I don’t like is someone hijacking an issue for personal gain. Reynolds wasn’t asked to comment on the issue and he felt for some reason he needed to go out of his way to criticize Avery, who was asked to be a part of the campaign, for his beliefs. Hey jerk, why don’t you just stay out of everyone elses business and worry about getting yourself more than five clients.

As a sign of support for Avery the Rangers tweeted out his video message in support of same sex marriage.
