No Rush for Richards

richardsLarry Brooks of the New York Post reports that Glen Sather has no intention of offering the financially distressed Dallas Stars a combination of young guns, or any permutation of emerging Bluebloods for Brad Richards.

Brooks adds that Sather will pursue Richards when he becomes an UFA this summer, but cap space will be tight because of Wade Redden’s returning $6.5 million hit; the $10-11 million the Rangers will have to set aside for pending Group II free agents Callahan, Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov; the absence of an additional bonus cushion in the final year of the CBA; and the possibility, if not likelihood, the NHPA will vote against triggering an additional five percent hike in the cap.

Sather will closely monitor the situation with Richards approaching the Feb. 28 trade deadline.

Finally, Brooks says Matt Gilroy will be headed back to the press box when Michal Rozsival comes back on Friday or Saturday and that Sather will attempt to acquire a veteran lefty defenseman as a rental in advance of the trade deadline.

…please no Richards!!!! I love the way this team is playing right now I’d hate to ruin it bringing in a high priced player which never seems to work out on Broadway. Also if Sather makes the trade in season, who is he trading Dubi? Staal? McD? Valentenko? No thanks.
