The NHL released the second to last All Star Game balloting numbers and Sean Avery moved up just one spot to #15 for forwards with 161,182 votes. Avery also fell further behind in the race for the third and final vote-in spot as he now trails Evgeni Malkin by almost 130,000 votes.
I hate giving up on anything, but the numbers don’t lie here. With Avery averaging almost 30,000 votes a week he’d need more than 4 times that number this week to make up the difference. An impossible task.
Were we unsuccessful? Sure. But everyone should be proud of the effort shown here. Getting the most hated player in hockey the 15th most votes for forwards is a Herculean accomplishment. I’m sure Avery appreciated it.
Rangers fans have never been known to get out the vote for their players. Hopefully this year’s Avery campaign will have the Garden Faithful excited to vote next year. Maybe I’ll make life easier for us and pick a more likeable player to rally around. Rozsival anyone? 😉
If anyone is still interested in voting for Avery this week to see how high we can get him. Go for it. But I’m not going to push anyone.
