Ok, it’s been less than 24 hours since I announced the All Star write-in campaign for Sean Avery and it is going much better than expected.
All of the major Ranger fan bloggers are on board and have been working feverishly to get the word out. Especially, Nick Montemagno at the Rangers Tribune who came up with the “Vote for Avery” banner and John at Canyon of Blueshirts who has been e-mailing back and forth with Avery’s publicist.
I’ve contacted every Rangers beat writer asking for them to get the word out, however, I have yet to hear back from any of them. So if you get the chance, drop each of them an e-mail asking for their support of our campaign: GrossA@northjersey.com, firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org and email@example.com.
One mistake I did make in my original post is that you are not limited to 30 votes a day. As pointed out by @Jen9400, the 30 limit is just for the contest entries not for voting. So vote until your fingers fall off.
The NHL has yet to update their leader board, but once they do I’ll be sure to let you know.
For those of you who would rather me start a write-in campaign for Dubinsky, Callahan or Boyle or just don’t like the idea, TheNYRBlog reader Mich says it best…
“I think those of you who are saying that Avery doesn’t deserve to be an All-Star are sort of missing the point here. Avery most certainly is not an All-Star. But the point of the write-in campaign is to have someone who does not embody, in any way shape or form, the direction Bettman’s taking the league. For him to start in the All-Star game would be a statement that the new NHL does not represent the game of hockey that we came to love once upon a time. For him to start would show that NHL fans still have some character. This isn’t about Avery, it’s about Bettman taking the league in a poor direction, and fans showing their displeasure. I’m not speaking for Kevin, that’s just my take.”
…actually Mich you did speak for me. And quite well.
So thanks to everyone for their support and hard work. With your continued commitment we can really piss off Gary Bettman.
