Today, the NHL released their All Star voting leader board and Sean Avery has the 27th most votes for a forward with 17,494. Avery is currently ahead of players such as Phil Kessel, Dany Heatley, Ryan Getzlaf, Rick Nash and Jarome Iginla.
Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby and Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith are the leaders in the first week of voting in the 2011 NHL All-Star Fan Balloting, presented by XM with 118,755 and 82,968 votes, respectively. Rounding out the top five in votes are team captains Nicklas Lidstrom of the Detroit Red Wings with 80,723 votes, Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals with 80,169 votes and Jonathan Toews of the Blackhawks with 79,953 votes. More than 3.62 million votes have been cast to date.
Absolutely outstanding job by everyone getting the vote out for Avery. This number, as far as I’m concerned is huge. Hoping that the Ranger beat writers will jump on board now.
Avery is one slot behind Marian Gaborik 26th (19,454). Marc Staal is 13th for defenseman (28,570) and Henrik Lundqvist is 11th for goaltenders (24,245).
Now just because Avery had a big number doesn’t mean we should stop, we have to keep voting and getting the word out. The official “Vote for Sean Avery” facebook page has over 550 “likes” so spread the word on that as well.
And of course, to vote for Avery go to NHL.com or text “Sean Avery” to 81812.
